Отмъстителите / The Avengers - With The Avengers director and co-writer Joss Whedon has definitely a tough
task on his shoulders - how to make a movie with so many strong
characters and to not under- or overestimate the screen presence of any
of them? He, however, not only achieves that but brings a film that is
even better than the sum of its parts. Taking into account that The Avengers
is just Whedon's second foray into cinema direction, the result at the
end is really marvellous (yes, I've gone that path). The makers of the
movie, helped by Marvel who always insist on protecting their children,
not only pay attention to every detail but fill the script with great
one-liners, memorable scenes and even more memorable spectacle. And if
you think that the action within Avengers' airbase in the middle of the
film could not be topped, just wait until the final battle on the
streets of New York - it's a triumph of visual effects, choreography,
cinematography and ambitious directing. And if the geek inside you
do not scream with joy during these scenes, watching your heroes
protecting the world, then it's better to go and check your pulse. Speaking
of the characters, everyone gets his/her moment to shine, though many
will come out of the cinemas wishing to see more of Iron Man (Robert
Downey Jr.'s charisma is as always irresistible) and of Hulk as
Marvel has finally managed to pull a really astonishing Hulk - ferocious
but extremely funny. Without going the spoiler way, there are two or three
Hulk-related moments that will enter the folklore of comic-related
greatness. Oh, and last, but definitely not least, proving that every
fantastic movie needs a remarkable villain, The Avengers has a strong ace up its sleeve - Loki and the meticulous performance by Tom
Hiddleston. He is really really evil and he knows it. I know that some
critics loathe the idea of giving a great summer entertainment movie
five stars, but I have no such dilemmas... Bring on part 2! (Forum Film) *****
