German Chart Comments - Issue Date 18.05

Fast and expected, the latest winner of Deutschland sucht den Superstar has to retreat from the top spot after just a week spent there. Thus Luca Hänni falls to #3, with Alex Clare replacing him at the summit and "Too Close" makes a third non-consecutive week on the top.

The highest new entry arrives at #2. "Borussia, schenk uns die Schale" is the newest hymn of the football team which won the cup in the country and supported by the love of the fans charts so high. It is credited to Norbert Dickel & Der BVB-Jahrhundertchor but is actually based on Mickie Krause's schlager hit "Schatzi schenk mir ein Foto!", which has reached just #27. Last year, Krypteria's "Die BVB-Hymne 2011" peaked at #6. Oh, and Norbert Dickel is actually a former player for Borussia Dortmund...Expect a big drop next week.

Within the top ten, new peaks by Of Monsters And Men's "Little Talks", while Carly Rae Jepsen's moves four to enter the first ten at #8 in its second week. More surprising is though the seven-position growth of "Summer Paradise" of Simple Plan feat. Sean Paul to #8. And I continue to think that all credits should go to Sean Paul for that.

Also on the rise are Pitbull's "Back In Time" (#13-#12) and Culcha Candela's "Von Allein" (#20-#15).

Following the #2 peak of "Heavy Cross" (and it's neverending presence in the top 100), Gossip have brought three more singles to the chart but with not much of an aplomb. Now they return with fresh material and it's good to see pilot single "Perfect World" new at #19.

And the remaining new entries:

30. Kris feat. Dante Thomas - Diese Tage - Kris apparently is part of local band Revolverheld, who follows the footsteps of lead singer Johannes Strate trying his solo luck. And he has done it much better as Johannes' only single to enter the top 100 peaked at #71.

40. Amy MacDonald - Slow It Down - It's not close to the performance of "This Is The Life" but still the return of Amy in the top 50 is a welcoming sight.
44. Peter Heppner - Meine Welt - Apart from his duo act Wolfsheim, Peter Heppner has rarely released singles solo but his latest is worth checking out.
65. B.o.B. - So Good - It's good when worldwide "hits" struggle to find an audience in Germany.

The Album Chart

After Die Ärzte (#2) and Unheilig (#3), the reign of German acts in the LP countdown continues with the release of the latest album of local legends Die Toten Hosen. "Ballast der Republik" is the eighth album of the group to reach the top. Veteran singer Reinhard Mey is also back with "Gib mir Musik" at #4, while the newest from Keane "Strangeland" (#5) is the only English title among the first five.
