German Chart Comments - Issue Date 26.09

Two months ago David Guetta with the help of Sam Martin, but thanks mainly to producer Avicii, debuted at top of the German singles chart and is still there, untroubled neither by Marlon Roudette and his former #1 "When The Beat Drops Out", which continues to be at #2, nor by Ella Henderson and her amazing "Ghost", which sticks to #3.

In its second week on the list, Calvin Harris' "Blame" soars ten positions to #4, becoming the second top ten hit in the career of the British musician. As for John Newman, who provides the vocals, this is also his second top ten single, beating the #6 peak of "Love Me Again".
Video

At #8, in its third week, The Script's "Superheroes" shows some inner strength and moves up two.
Video

Nothing is on the way of Meghan Trainor and her worldwide chart domination with "All About That Bass" as the debut single shoots itself from #24 to #9.
Vide

"Problem", the previous single of Ariana Grande, reached #19 not so long ago, but her second foray in the German charts (as a lead singer) in the shape of "Break Free" advances this week eleven positions and occupies the 12th slot. It also beats the #15 peak of "Stay the Night", the best performing single of local producer Zedd, who is responsible for the Grande's hit.
Video

Also in the right direction is Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off", as it climbs six to #13.
Video

This week's highest new entry comes from Australian band Sheppard, which has taken the family name of three of its members. "Geronimo" has already topped the charts Down Under and Germany is the first country where it starts its assault on Europe. The song debuts at #15.

Further down the countdown Lenny Kravitz' "The Chamber" moves up six to #26, while Revolverheld's "Lass uns gehen" becomes the band's tenth top 30 single as it rises thirteen to #28. As it won the Bundesvision song contest last weekend, we can expect the song to go even higher next time around.

Katy Perry's "This is How We Do" is also on the rise, from #45 to #36, while at #40, up from #74, Irish musician Hozier scores his first top 40 single with his debut "Take Me To Church".

Duke Dumont's previous single "I Got U" was a minor hit in Germany as it peaked at #22 several months ago. Now the British DJ is back with "Won't Look Back" entering at #41.

And finally let's spare a thought for Nicki Minaj and her a**, sorry, "Anaconda", which rises ten to #48 in its fourth week in the chart.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 19.09

Though this week we have some movement in the better part of the German singles chart, David Guetta and Sam Martin are undisturbed at the top with their dance anthem "Lovers on the Sun" standing there for a sixth week in a row. It is once again followed by Marlon Roudette's "When the Beat Drops Out" at #2. Fresh wind in the top three comes at #3 where "Ghost" of Ella Henderson rises two, to become the first big hit of the former participant of X Factor UK.

At #9, up from #21, Cro registers his sixth (out of six) top ten singles with "Bad Chick".

I am a little surprised by the success in Germany of "Giant In My Heart", the follow-up to "Hideaway", the massive hit of Kiesza (peak #5) as the wonderful song debuts this week at #11 to be the highest new entry.
Video

Three positions behind, and also hot on the heels of the enormously successful "Summer" (peak #3), Calvin Harris cements his superstar status with his latest "Blame" coming in at #14. It is a collaboration with John Newman and becomes the fourth single of Calvin as a lead artist to enter the German top 20.
Video

Taylor Swift may be huge elsewhere but it is only now, thanks to current hit "Shake It Off", that she has a second top 20 single in the country. Her only foray in the upper reaches in the chart so far has been "I Knew You Were Trouble", which reached #9. "Shake It Off" rises from #33 to #19.
Video

Newcomers and I guess Internet stars Taddl & Marley bring two new entries inside the top 50 this week. The first one, under the name of "Roadin", is at #22 and the second - "Mula" at #42.

At #24, an increase from #41, heading towards the top 20 is Meghan Trainor and her "All About That Bass", while Jess Glynne, who already has had two top ten hits in Germany by providing vocals to "Rather Be" of Clean Bandit and "My Love" of Route 94, makes her solo debut with "Right Here", which lands at #25.

The next new entry at #35 meets Robin Schulz, the top electronic music producer currently, with Alligatoah, one of the successful newcomers on Germany's hip hop scene for the last year and a half. This time Schulz has made a remix of "Willst du", the most notorious hit of Alligatoah, whose original version reached #14 and stayed in the top 50 for months.
Video

Rea Garvey is back with the second single from his "Pride" LP. "Oh My Love" comes eight positions behind the #32 peak of "Can’t Say No". It is the sixth top 40 solo single of Rea.

"This Is How We Do" of Katy Perry advances one to #45, while "Habits (Stay High)" of Tove Lo finally makes it inside the top 50 after months hovering just outside of it. The song is up seven to #50.

"Luna", the third album of local pagan-folk band Faun, comes new at #4. German Chart Comments - Issue Date 12.09

Nothing can shake the German top three (actually even the top five) for yet another week as David Guetta ft. Sam Martin and "Lovers On The Sun" clocking a fifth week on the summit. It is followed by "When The Beat Drops Out", the former number one of Marlon Roudette, and current UK chart topper "Prayer in C" of Lilly Wood & The Prick and Robin Schulz.

After debuting at #10 in mid-August, "Maps", the latest single of Maroon 5, left the top ten for a while to return there this week at #6, an increase from #12. It is already the fourth top ten single of the US band in Germany.

The highest new entry comes in the shape of "Superheroes", the freshly released single of The Script. The song enters at #10 and thus is only the second hit of the Irish band to crack into the German top ten. Last The Script were in the Top 100 with "If You Could See Me Now", which couldn't advance further than #45.
Video

We should also spare a thought for "Atemlos Durch Die Nacht" of Helene Fischer, which, by going down two to #11, leaves the top ten for the first time after 37 weeks (hopefully I've counted them right but the picture is still more than clear).
Video

Local hip hop trio 257ers have been active for almost ten years but needed their previous single "Warum" to enter the charts for the first time. Though the song peaked at #80, it definitely put the boys on the radar and now with a new and more provocative song they score a top 20 smash hit with "Baby Du Riechst" entering at #14.
Video

The success of electronic music continues this week with ZHU, who brings his first single "Faded" directly at #18.
Audio

For those following the German music scene Clueso is already a house name, despite having only one top 20 hit so far - "Keinen Zentimeter" from 2008. Now, however, the Erfurt-born singer can write to his account another top 20 entry with "Freidrehen" new at #20.
Video

Further down the list, Cro's "Bad Chick" is up two to #21 and Lenny Kravitz' "The Chamber" rises three to #27.

Trailerpark, a new hip-hop project behind which we can smell Alligatoh (of Willst Du fame), enters this week in the chart for the first time with "Bleib In Der Schule" at  #35.
Video

US newcomer Meghan Trainor has already managed to score a number one at home with "All About That Bass". Now, the song is gaining momentum in Europe too and in Germany soars twenty to #41.
Vide

And finally, "Prims", the current LP of Katy Perry brings a fourth (out of five) top 50 single in the shape of "This Is How We Do", which rises to #46 from #68.

The LP chart

There are only two old albums remaining in the top ten this week, as there is an influx of eight new entries in there. The pack is led by the new line-up of veteran local band BAP under the name of Niedeckens Bap and their live album "Das Maerchen Vom Gezogenen Stecker", which debuts at #1. In the top ten there are also debuts of Massiv's "M10" at #3, Hammerfall's "(R)evolution" at #4, Olson's "Ballonherz" at #5, Maroon 5's "V" at #6, Alpa Gun's "Geboren Um Zu Sterben" at #7, the soundtrack to "Guardians of the Galaxy" at #9 and DJ Antoine's "We Are The Party" at #10.
