German Chart Comments - Issue Date 29.03

It's a second week on top for Passenger's "Let Her Go", while Will.I.Am & Britney Spears' "Scream & Shout" are still at #2. Justin Timberlake's giant "Mirrors" rebounds a position to re-enter the top 3.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis this week have the honour to have two songs in the top ten simultaneously as "Thrift Shop" is at #4, while follow-up "Can't hold us" climbs to #8 from #16.

Inside the top 20, it's a new peak for Ellie Goulding's "Lights" at #11, up from #17, and Taylor Swift's "I knew you were trouble" at #12, up from #15.

The highest new entry belongs to legendary band Die Ärzte and their latest single "Waldspaziergang Mit Folgen" at #17. It is the fourth single taken from their "Auch" album and the fourth to penetrate the top 20. This makes Die Ärzte's career since 2003 relatively steady with only "Himmelblauperfektbreit" performing worse with a peak of #26.

At #18 The Lumineers finally make it in the top 20 with their global hit and debut single "Ho Hey", up from #22.

Further down the countdown, local newcomer Leslie Clio scores her biggest hit as "I couldn't care less", her second single, moves 16 places and peaks at #25. Bruno Mars' "When I was your man" is this week up three to #26, while Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding enter the top 30 at #28 with "I need your love", an increase from #42. It's the third top 30 single of Calvin as a lead artist.

This week also sees US rapper Wax on the way of having a major hit in Germany as his "Rosanna" climbs 25 places and enters the top 50 at #32. With these lyrics it's destined to be a smash...

At #38 Lena is following the #2 peak of previous single "Stardust" with the somewhat underwhelming new entry of "Neon (Lonely People)" - the second single from Lena's current album.

Finally, dance project Italobrothers is having its second single in the charts as "This Is Nightlife" debuts at #41. It comes after "My Life Is a Party" peaked at #43 last year. The new song is based on "Ecuador", the hit of Sash! from 1997, which then reached #7.

And the other new entries this week:

51. Bushido ft. Shindy - PANAMERA FLOW
60. KC REBELL Ft. FARID BANG - KANAX IN PARIS
63. SARAH AND PIETRO -
DREAM TEAM
64. THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS - UP IN THE AIR
68. VOLBEAT -
CAPE OF OUR HERO
70. RIO -

71. AGNETHA FALTSKOG -

79. KE$HA - C'MON
82. CAROLINA MARQUEZ Ft. FLO RIDA AND DALE SAUNDERS -
SING LA LA LA
87. STEVIE B Ft. PITBULL -
SPRING LOVE 2013

The Album Chart

After David Bowie finally had his first number one in Germany's LP chart last week, it's time for Justin Timberlake to follow suit with the much anticipated "The 20/20 Experience". The third solo album of the supertalent beats thus the #11 peak of "Justified" and the #3 one of "FutureSex/LoveSounds".
Schlager star and granny favourite Semino Rossi debuts this week at #2 with "Symphonie des Lebens". Rossi has already has a #1 and #2 albums, though the curious fact is that the latest is produced by the one and only Dieter Bohlen. The schlager influx continues at #3 where duo Fantasy have their best performing album ever with "Endstation Sehnsucht". Some quality this week can be found at #8 where French Woodkid debuts with his first album "The Golden Age".

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 22.03

So, finally, after an impressive nine-week stay on top Britney and Will.I.Am retreat to #2, leading the way to Passenger's "Let Her Go" to claim the summit. Thus, Germany joins the group of countries, which includes the Netherlands, Belgium and Ireland, where the British singer has taken the #1 position with his first single. He is still to debut in his native country though. The bronze medals belong this week to "Thrift Shop" of Macklemore, down a position from #2.

"Feel This Moment", which finally has a video, of Pitbull and Christina Aguilera rises this week two to #9, while "Das kleine Kueken piept" of Pulcino Pio finds its way to the top ten, up from #15 to #10.

Inside the top 20, Taylor Swift is looking for troubles with "I Knew You Were Trouble" at #15, up from #17. And to say once again, this is clearly the best performing single of Taylor in Germany. A position behind, Macklemore's "Can't Hold Us" enters the top 20 for the first time to bring the US musician two simultaneous hits in the upper reaches of the chart.

At #22 The Lumineers' "Ho Hey" continues its rise and is this week up from #26. Hurts' "Miracles" inches up a notch to #24 in its second week, while Bosse's "Schoenste Zeit" climbs 13 places to #27. Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man" enters the top 30 at #29, up from #32, becoming his seventh (out of seven) singles to enter the first thirty positions.

Theophilus London's "Wine and Chocolate" is this week at #33, up from #46, while Calvin Harris' latest single "I Need Your Love", in collaboration with Ellie Goulding, enters the top 50 at #42, an increase from #58. It is Calvin's fourth single in the top 50, including Rihanna's big smash "We Found Love".

This leaves us to the highest and only new entry in the top 50, Schiller's latest single "Lichtermeer" at #47. This is Schiller's 13th top 50 single and comes after the #12 peak of "Sonne" with Unheilig from last year.

And the other new entries this week:

58. Blake Lewis - Your Touch
72. Die Cappuccinos - Wie geil ist das denn
80. Oleta Adams - Get Here
93. Nelly - Hey Porsche

94. Zedd ft. Foxes - Clarity

The Album Chart

There is a lot of going on in this week's album chart as all the first five positions are taken by new albums. David Bowie's comeback LP however rules them all as "The Next Day" becomes his first ever album to reach the top slot. So far, "Let's Dance" has been Bowie's best performing LP, reaching #2. The newest album of Bon Jovi, "What About Now", comes new at #2, and thus misses for the first time since 2002's "Bounce" the top slot. The band has the amazing six #1 LPs in Germany. At #3 enters Hurts sophomore album "Exile". Their debut one "Happiness" reached #2. Deservingly, local musician Bosse has his best performing and first top 10 album with "Kraniche", new at #4, while rapper Chakuza is new at #5 with "Magnolia". This is Chakuza's fourth top ten album. And finally, fellow rapper Megaloh is also new in the top as his debut "Endlich unendlich:" arrives at #9.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 15.03

As will.i.am & Britney Spears' megahit "Scream & Shout" refuses to lose any steam, it stands for a ninth consecutive week on top of the German singles chart. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop" is this week at #2, inching up a position from #3. At the same time UK singer Passenger has his first top three single with "Let Her Go", up from #5. Whether Germany would be the next country where he will be number one only the next weeks will tell.

After storming the global charts, and especially USA where he is at #1 for a fourth week, sensation Baauer and his "Harlem Shake" enters the German countdown this week at #10. Needless to say, this is the first single of the US bass music producer in the chart.

Pulcino Pio and the shamefully catchy "Das kleine Küken piept" peaks in its third week on the list at #15, up from #20, while Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" is up one notch to #17.

Veteran German rock band Silly, founded in eastern Germany in the GDR era and reformed in 2005, makes a rare appearance in the German singles chart with "Deine Stärken" at #21.

Further down the chart, on the rise this week are Follow Your Instinct and "My City" at #24, up from #34, The Lumineers and the great "Ho Hey" at #26, up from #35, as well as Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man", the follow-up to "Locked Out Of Heaven", at #32, up from #36.

British duo Hurts, whose "Wonderful Life" and "Stay" reached the top three in Germany a couple of years ago, are back with their second album and this week the pilot single "Miracle" debuts at #25 - a somewhat disappointing new entry for Theo and Adam.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' huge success with "Thrift Shop" has triggered the interest in their earlier singles as "Can't Hold Us" is moving up the charts and this week can be found at #39, an increase by ten positions.

Lana Del Rey continues to release singles from her "Born To Die" album and "Dark Paradise" this week enters at #45, becoming her sixth top 50 single in the country.

At the low end of the top 50 American rapper Theophilus London is enjoying his first ever success in Germany as "Wine & Chocolates" climbs four to #46. At #50 German rappers Prinz Pi and Casper bring their collaboration "100x" fresh to the chart.

And the other new entries this week:

58. Calvin Harris feat. Ellie Goulding - I Need Your Love
66. Dú Maroc feat. Jonesmann - One Touch
74. Sofi de la Torre - Faster
86. Marie Meimberg - Ich glaube
91. Wiz Khalifa feat. Sam Curtis - No Sleep

The Album Chart

The album chart continues to be ruled by Heino and his "Mit freundlichen Grüssen". Dido's newest release, "Girl Who Got Away", becomes her fourth album to chart inside the top 3 as it enters at #2 this week. A position behind the British singer, Steven Wilson, the founder of Porcupine Tree, has registered his first ever solo top 10 album with "The Raven That Refused To Sing And Other Stories"

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 1.03

As Will.I.Am and Britney stand for a seventh week on top, Rihanna's "Stay" advances three positions and takes the runner-up slot. The song is thus the 11th single of the superstar to enter the top three in Germany. At #3 "Thrift shop" of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis retains its position from last week.
Video  - Will.I.Am
Video  - Thrift Shop
Video - Rihanna

Perhaps the presence of Sean Paul, who is extremely loved in Germany, has helped Arash scoring his best hit in the country in a time when as if he was completely forgotten. Thus, "She Makes Me Go", based on Ice MC's 90s hit "Think About The Way" (peak #14), enters at #5, beating the #11 peak of Arash's biggest hit so far "Boro Boro".
Video

After being selected to represent Germany at this year's Eurovision, Cascada's "Glorious" soars thirty positions and enters the top 10 at #6. It is thus the act's fourth top ten single, just a notch away from the peak of "Everytime We Touch" and "Evacuate the Dancefloor". Last year,  Roman Lob's "Standing Still" reached #3.
Video

Cascada's main opponents for Eurovision were local band LaBrassBanda, who this week rise with "Nackert" to #13 from #74, registering their first ever single in the Top 100.
Live

Passenger's "Let Her Go" continues its rise and is already in the top 20, at #14, up from #26.
Video

Last year Pulcino Pio's "Il pulcino pio" irritated / delighted millions in Italy by standing on top of the local charts for two months. Now, the German version called "Das kleine Küken piept" has stormed the charts at #18 to remind us that the days of children friendly music will never be over.
Video

This week marks a significant milestone for Taylor Swift as she finally has a top 20 single in Germany as "I Knew You Were Trouble" moves three and is now at #19, beating the #21 peak of "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together".
Video

Leaving any Taylor Swift references aside, One Direction are back in the top 30 with "One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)" at #22, matching the peak of their best performing single in Germany "Live While We’re Young". The boys may be superstars elsewhere but for the time being as if the One Directioners are not so many in Germany as one may have expected. Blondie's original never charted in Germany.
Video

At #25 Justin Timberlake's "Suit And Tie" makes a fresh peak by climbing seven places. Moreover, Justin Timberlake's second proposal from his "20/20 Experience" album "Mirrors" debuts this week at #34.
Audio - Mirrors
Video - S&T

Five positions before JT's "Mirrors" we have a new entry from German singer Bosse, whose "Schönste Zeit" turns to be his highest charting single so far, beating the #35 peak of "Frankfurt/Oder" from 2011. It is a well-deserved success for the 33-year old musician.
Video

It's good that OneRepublic are still loved in Germany as their latest single "If I Lose Myself" comes new at #31. The previous one, the completely ignored in many countries "Feel Again" reached #9. This is the ninth top 50 single of the group.
Video

Supergroup Follow Your Instinct have a relatively brief appearance with "No Matter What They Say" last year (peak #54) but now enter the chart with "My City" at #40.
Video

Three positions down the list, Avicii and Nicki Romero return to the top 50 with former UK number one "I Could Be The One", up from #52.
Video

Also new in the top 50 are US folk rock band The Lumineers, whose global hit "Ho Hey" is finally gearing up in Germany and is this week at #47, an increase from #63.

 The Album Chart

In the album chart controversial star Heino returns to the summit with "Mit freundlichen Grüssen" for a second run on the top, while Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' latest "Push The Sky Away" debuts at #2. It's the best performing album of the act, while German dark wave band Blutengel's "Monument" comes in at #4, becoming their first album to crack the top 10. Also new, at #7, is DJ Ötzi's "Es ist Zeit" - only his third album to enter the top 10 and curiously his third to reach #7.
