As all positions between one and seven remain unchanged compared to the previous week, Lost Frequencies spends a second week on the top of the German singles chart with "Are You With Me". The dance anthem is followed by Omi's "Cheerleader" (eight weeks at #2) and Ellie Goulding's "Love Me Like You Do".

Up eight to #8 and entering the top ten for the first time in their careers we can find Major Lazer and DJ Snake and "Leon On". They are followed by the highest new entry of the week at #9. It comes from French dance project Klingande and their third single "Riva (Restart The Game)". The track comes year and a half after Klingande topped the charts all over Europe with modern evergreen "Jubel".

Rihanna is still in the top five with "Fourfiveseconds" but that doesn't stop her to bring yet another new song inside the top 100 as "Bitch Better Have My Money" debuts at #17.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 3.04

Finally, after a six-week stay on the top, Ellie Goulding's "Love Me Like You Do" has to give up the reign this week to Belgian DJ act Lost Frequencies and his debut track "Are You With Me". The hit is based on a song by country singer Easton Corbin and is already in the top five of most of the countries in continental western Europe. So Ellie and Lost Frequencies switch the #1 and #3 positions with Omi's "Cheerleader" remaining for a seventh consecutive week at #2.

"Hold Back The River" of James Bay is up two to #4, while the highest new entry, yet another example of the current dance trends, belongs to the curiously named Gestört aber GeiL & Koby Funk feat. Wincent Weiss. The song, under the title of "Unter meiner Haut", comes in at #12. It is based on a single of relatively unknown local singer Elif, who had brought the song to #80 in the spring of 2013.

Maroon 5's "Sugar" gains two to #41, while in its second week on the countdown "Five More Hours" of Deorro and Chris Brown soars from #76 to #49. It is the second entry of the US house DJ and producer in the German chart after "Yee" spent three weeks at the low end of the Top 100 in 2013. Also new inside the top 50 is "My House", the title track of the just released new EP of Flo Rida. It debuts at #50.

At #16 David Guetta and Emeli Sande are up three with "What I did for Love". Pitbull and Ne-Yo are also on their way towards the better part of the chart with "Time of Our Lives" rising nine to #23. Olly Murs scores his sixth top 30 single with "Up". The latter advances eleven positions to #28.

Over the last few weeks Germany's music scene was shaken by the decision of Andreas Kümmert, the former winner of The Voice of Germany, to decline to represent the country at the Eurovision contest this May in Vienna despite participating in the competition for Germany's entry at the music show and winning the vote of Germans with a clear majority. Kümmert, who, let's face it, would have fallen into oblivion if he hadn't appeared in the contest, decided that he could not stand on the stage in Austria and thus cleared the way for runner-up Ann Sophie to go instead. Germans, however, seem still to like his winning song as "Heart of Stone" soars from #84 to #12 in its second week in the countdown. "Simple Man", Kümmert's finale song from The Voice of Germany, peaked at #2.

British newcomer James Bay makes it inside the top twenty this week with his "Hold Back The River" going up eight to #14. "Heartbreak Song" of Kelly Clarkson advances two to #16, while David Guetta scores his 22 top 20 single in Germany with "What I Did For Love". The song, which features the vocals of Emeli Sande, climbs two to #19. It is thus the second appearance of Emeli inside the top 20.

German hip hop band Die Orsons have had two singles inside the German top 100 so far, with the bigger of them being the #34 peak of "Horst & Monika" from 2012. Now they are definitely on a better form with "Schwung In Die Kiste" entering at #23 just a couple of weeks after "What's Goes?" made a brief chart appearance at the lower end of the countdown.
Video

Swiss singer Stefanie Heinzmann was last in the German chart in 2012 with "Diggin’ in the Dirt", which peaked at #12. She is now back with new material as "In The End" debuts this week at #25 to be her sixth top 30 hit in the country.
Video

I've mentioned Ann Sophie earlier due to her unexpected triumph at the selection of Germany's song for this year's Eurovision. The track in question, called "Black Smoke", arrives this week at #29. Hopefully it will gain in recognition as the contest approaches.
Live

Pitbull and Ne-Yo's "Time Of Our Lives" advances further, this week to #32 from #43, while "Elastic Heart" of Sia continues its slow ascent by two notches to #35. "Up" of Olly Murs and Demi Lovato gains eleven, justifying its title, and is at #39 in its third week on the chart.

Also new inside the top 50 we can find "Lean On" at #42, the latest of Major Lazer with the help of DJ Snake and MO. So far Major Lazer has been in the top 40 with "Watch Out for This (Bumaye)", peak #27, in 2013.

At #45, up twelve, Maroon 5 improved on their #49 peak two weeks ago with "Sugar".

And finally, this week sees the comeback of Carly Rae Jepsen to the charts as her new single "I Really Like You" debuts at #50. Carly has had two hits on her account - the modern evergreen "Call Me Maybe" (peak #3) and the duet with Owl City "Good Time" (peak #11).

The Album Chart

Though her single career nowadays is more miss than hit, Madonna has managed with ease to top the German charts with her 13th studio album "Rebel Heart". It thus raises the number of number one LPs of Madonna in Germany to 12. This all comes to the expense of Howard Carpendale, with the veteran schlager singer failing once again to score its first number one album in Germany with "Das ist unsere Zeit" debuting at #2. Also new in the top ten we have rapper Sudden and "Superkraefte" at #4.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 13.03

Ellie Goulding clocks up a full month on top of the German singles chart with "Love Me Like You Do", followed for yet another time by "Cheerleader" of Omi. "FourFiveSeconds" moves up two to #3 this week to become the first ever top-three single of Kanye West in Germany. As for Rihanna the song is her 13th appearance in the top three, while the hit manages to register the same peak as Sir Paul McCartney's previous top-three single "Hope of Deliverance" from the early 90s.

Kelly Clarkson scores her eight top-20 single in the country as her latest "Heartbeat Song" rises five to match the #18 peak of Kelly's last top-20 success "Mr. Know It All".

Though she undoubtedly is a music force everyone should acknowledge and despite the fact that her forthcoming tour will be more than successful, the feeling that Madonna has once again failed to score a big chart hit remains. Her new offering "Living For Love" may be soaring 41 places to #40 but the chances that it is going to be forgotten in a week or two are more than great. Madonna was last in the chart with "Give Me All Your Luvin’" which peaked at #8. Unfortunately her previous LP produced no other charting singles in Germany.

Veteran German musician Herbert Grönemeyer is back with the second single from his "Dauernd jetzt" album. "Fang mich an" arrives in at #41, while the pilot track from the LP called "Morgen" debuted at #5.

The latest collaboration between Pitbull and Ne-Yo called "Time Of Our Lives" enters the top 50 in its second week in the chart, by going up to #43 from #72. Pitbull's previous single "Fireball" reached #22, while Ne-Yo was last in the top 100 with "Forever Now", peak #64. The two singers have collaborated before on "Give me Everything", which was a number-two smash in 2011.
Video

It has taken some time until "Up", the second single from the current album of Olly Murs to be released in Germany. Now the duet with Demi Lovato moves up eighteen in its second week inside the top 100 and ranks at #50. "Wrapped Up", the previous single of Olly, peaked at #11. Demi's best performing single in Germany is "Wouldn’t Change a Thing", peaking at #28 in 2010.

Nena, another veteran on the German music scene, comes back with "Oldschool" at #4. Her last studio album "Du bist gut" peaked at #2. Ellie Goulding spends a third week as Germany's number one with "Love Me Like You Do", followed once again by "Cheerleader", the song of Omi, which Ellie replaced at the summit. Also having his first ever top 20 hit, both as a lead artist and as a guest, is The Weeknd as his "Earned It" moves up seven to #17.

David Guetta continues scoring hits in Germany and this time it is his collaboration with Emeli Sande called "What I Did For Love" which advances eleven positions to peak just outside the top 20 at #21. It is doubtful that it would reach the top three as the previous two singles of Guetta did but at least the top 20 is now within reach.

Last Kelly Clarkson was in the German countdown with the 2012 flop "Catch My Breath" (peak #89). Now the singer is back on a better form as her "Heartbreak Song" rises to #23 from #41. The pilot single from Kelly's new album becomes her eleventh top 30 track in Germany.
Video

Belgian DJ project Lost Frequencies enters the top 30 this week at #37, an increase from #40, with "Are You With Me". The song, which fits perfectly with the current dance trends, is actually a remix of a track of US country singer Easton Corbin.

Kid Ink goes on with his surprising success in Germany as his track from the soundtrack of the latest Fast and Furious movie debuts inside the top 40. "Ride Out", at #34, is a collaboration with Tyga, YG, Wale and Rich Homie Quan.

Up eight to #38 we can find Sia and her second single in Germany as a lead artist - "Elastic Heart".

German producer Zedd is back with a new starry collaboration after the one with Ariana Grande. This time it's Selena Gomez who lends her vocals to the track called "I Want You To Know" at #43. Selena Gomez has been recently in the chart with the rather lackluster performance of "The Heart Wants What It Wants" peaking at #53 and staying in the chart for just three weeks.

"Sugar", the third official single from Maroon 5's "V" album, makes it this week inside the top 50 by rising eleven to #49. The previous two ones both reached the top 20.

The Album Chart

In the LP chart, the soundtrack of Fifty Shades Of Grey moves up one to claim the throne with last week's winner Bushido plummeting to #12. The compilation is followed by the latest LP of legendary German rock band Scorpions called "Return To Forever". The album becomes the second consecutive studio one of the group to peak at #2 after their 2010 effort "Sting in the Tail". The third LP of rock/punk band Krawallbrueder titled "Venganza" makes a career best for the Saarland guys at #3. The re-release of Led Zeppelin's 1975 album "Physical Graffiti" sees the LP appearing at #4, while "Karacho", the new offering of local alternative band Donots, can be found at #5. The second album of rapper Mosh36 called "Unikat" is this week at #7. This week also marks the first time "Farbenspiel", the multi-platinum album of Helene Fischer, leaves the top ten since its release way back in the autumn of 2013.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 20.02

The craziness around Fifty Shades Of Grey was more than certain to have its mark on the music charts as well and this week we see the full impact of the movie/book phenomenon as the main track from the soundtrack "Love Me Like You Do" of Ellie Goulding debuts straight at number one. Of course it doesn't hurt that the song is actually rather good by itself and deserves to be at #1 regardless of the film it features in. Solo Ellie Goulding has come the closest to number one with the #4 peak of "Burn", but of course a month ago she spent a brief week at #1 by providing the vocals for Calvin (the Armani model) Harris and his "Outside".
Video

The arrival of Ellie at #1 means that Omi has to retreat to #2 with "Cheerleader" after spending a week as Germany's most beloved song. Also down one, to #3, is "The Hanging Tree" of James Newton Howard feat. Jennifer Lawrence, rounding up quite a movie-themed top three.

Within the top 20 on their now regular ascent are "FourFiveSeconds" of Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney, up one to #5, "Firestone" of Kygo feat. Conrad, up two #6, and Meghan Trainor's "Lips Are Movin", up one to #16.

Up nine to #21 and improving on its #24 position from a month ago is "Wolke 4" of Philipp Dittberner & Marv. The song is, if you ask me, now in an urgent need of a video.

The second highest new entry comes from US alternative rock newcomers SomeKindaWonderful, whose "Reverse" was first released in the summer of last year but finally arrives at #30 in the German countdown after spending a hefty number of weeks in the country's airplay charts.

James Bay continues with his steady climb with debut single "Hold Back The River" now at #33, up from #41. Also thanks to the inclusion of the song on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack, The Weeknd's is having his first ever solo top 50 single with "Earned It" moving from #54 to #35.

After two number one hits, David Guetta is ready with his next track to conquer the upper reaches of the German chart. This time it is a collaboration with Emeli Sande and "What I Did For Love" comes inside the top 50 by rising from #58 to #37.
Lyric Video

"Vandaag" (peak #4) was one of the dance anthems of 2014 and now Dutch producer Bakermat is ready with the follow-up in the face of "Teach Me". The song debuts at #42.

And finally "Elastic Heart", what is actually the second ever single of Sia in the German chart as a lead artist, makes it this week inside the top 50 by advancing nine positions to #47. Previous single "Chandelier" reached #10.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 13.02

It has been expected for some time but finally Omi's "Cheerleader", remixed by Felix Jaehn, makes it to the number one in its sixth week on the chart by leaping seven positions. It thus replaces the soundtrack anthem of James Newton Howard and actress Jennifer Lawrence, "The Hanging Tree", which slips to #2 after staying two weeks at #1. This also means that Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars will have to be content with the #3 position, where their "Uptown Funk" smash stays for a second week in a row.

Audio - The Hanging Tree
Video - Mark Ronson

At #6, up from #21 in its second week, is "Fourfiveseconds", the track belonging to Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney. The song now has the honour to be Rihanna's 18th top ten single in Germany as a lead artist (or the 22th one when her guest appearances are counted). As for the notorious Kanye, the song is his second to reach the top ten, beating the #8 peak of "Love Lockdown" from 2008. As for Paul we have to go back to 1993 to find evergreen "Hope of Deliverance" as his last single in the Germany's top ten.

Entering together with "Cheerleader" six weeks ago, "Firestone" of Kygo, another hit from northern Europe, makes it inside the first ten this time by flying five to #8.

DSDS star Marcelo Araujo Alves, to the delight of Dieter Bohlen, enters the top 20 this week at #16, up from #28 where it debuted a week ago.

Also going inside the top 20 is "Lips Are Movin'", the second single of US newcomer Meghan Trainor. It is up six to #17.

This week sees also the entry of German singer Johannes Oerding in the top 30 as his fourth chart single "Alles brennt" fires up from #56 to #22. This is the first top 40 single of the Münster-born singer, who has had a small success with "Nichts geht mehr" peaking at #43 in 2013.

The highest new entry belongs to UK electronic duo Blonde and their first ever hit "I Loved You". The collaboration with Melissa Steel lands at #25.

In its third week on the countdown, Deichkind's "Denken Sie gross" rises from #53 to #36, coinciding with the release of the group's new album, which enters at #1 in the LP chart.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 6.02

James Newton Howard and Jennifer Lawrence spend a comfortable second week as Germany's number one with "The Hanging Tree", while Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding's "Outside" is still at #2. Rising up one, and entering the top three for the first time is "Uptown Funk" of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. The single thus manages to achieve the same peak as Ronson's modern classic "Valerie", while it is also the third top three single of Mr. Mars. Still, I have the feeling that the song is slowly losing momentum and it would be hard for it to top the German charts as it did elsewhere.

In its second week on the chart, Charli XCX's "Break The Rules" moves up three to peak at #4.

The highest new entry comes from local rock group Frei.Wild who score their best charting hit with "Unvergessen, unvergänglich, lebenslänglich" at #6. It is the second single from the still to be released "Opposition" LP, with the first one debuting at #8 some time ago. However, as the former offering of the boys remained in the top 100 for just a week, expect them next week to break their own record for the biggest fall from the top ten.

Just behind Frei.Wild we can find probably the biggest hit of this year's ski season for Germans - Tobee's "Jetzt ist der Teufel los". The schlager anthem is the first ever top 50 entry of the singer.

As it was to be expected Omi's "Cheerleader" and especially its remix by German DJ Felix Jaehn enters this week the top ten by going up eight to #8.

Kygo and Conrad are also up with "Firestone", this time at #13, up from #15. Also up two to #19 is "The Nights" by Avicii. It becomes the sixth top 20 single of the dance superstar.

The next new entry comes from the awesome combination between Rihanna, Kanye West and Sir Paul McCartney. The much hyped "FourFiveSeconds" arrives at #21. The last song in which Rihanna was credited as a lead singer in Germany was "What Now", which peaked at #49 in 2013. Three weeks ago Kanye West and Paul McCartney brought "The Only One" at #32 but the song disappeared from the Top 100 in just a week.

"Lips Are Moving" continues its ascent as the Meghan Trainor track advances two to #23.

Following a curious (to be polite) performance in the casting stage for the new season of Deutschland sucht den Superstar (DSDS), "Verliebt in der falsches Mädchen" a song penned and sung by Marcelo Araujo Alves was allowed for downloads and thus enters the chart at #28.

The next YouTube star from Germany arrives at #33 in the face of Liont and "Doppelkinn", while Ariana Grande and The Weeknd enter the top 40 at #35, up nine, with "Love Me Harder".

And finally, after entering the countdown at #70 last week, James Bay, one of the most promising newcomers for 2015, brings his first single "Hold Back The River" at #47.

The Album Chart

As previous week's chart topper Vega plummets to #45 (it must be a new record), we have another rapper replacing him at the summit of the German album countdown. This time his name is Favorite as his third LP "Neues von Gott" arrives straight at #1 to become his first album to reach #1. Local rock band Eisbrecher also have a career best with "Schock" at #2, while rapper Kurdo is new with "Almaz" at #3. Also debuting inside the top ten is "F.E.A.R.", the latest offering of Papa Roach at #6.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 30.01

A new week and a brand new number one in Germany as "The Hanging Tree", the unbelievably popular track from the soundtrack of the latest "Hunger Games" movies, rises two to claim the top spot. Needless to say it is the first foray of composer James Newton Howard and actress Jennifer Lawrence on top of the charts. As I mentioned last week, the sales of the single were boosted by a new trendy pop remix.

Thus Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding have to retreat one to #2, while former number one "Walk" of Kwabs moves down also one, to #3.

Slowly, but certainly going towards the #1 slot are Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars with their global smash "Uptown Funk". It is up three to #4.

The highest new entry of the week can be found at #7 courtesy of Charli XCX. "Break The Rules" makes a surprisingly successful new entry perhaps thanks to its use as the soundtrack of a local reality show. Though being one of the global hits last year, "Boom Clap" of Charli XCX never reached higher than #36 in Germany.

Between #11 and #20 we have new peaks of "Flash mich" of Mark Forster at #11, up one; of "Firestone" of Kygo and Conrad, up four to #15; and of Omi's "Cheerleader", up eleven to #16.

The next new entry at #23 belongs to Berlin-based newcomer Philipp Dittberner and electronic music specialist Marv and their "Wolke 4". The song follows the currently well-established road in the genre by Robin Schulz, The Avener...

Meghan Trainor's "Lips are Moving" advances four to #25, while the third release from Rea Garvey's "Pride" LP follows the previous two by also making it inside the top 50. "It's A Good Life" debuts at #43.

And finally, local YouTube sensation DieLochis score a third consecutive top 50 hit with "Mein letzter Tag", which arrives fresh at #46.

The Album Chart

As last week's number one of Prinz Porno collapses to #20 as all albums of rappers in Germany tend to do, his colleague Vega enters at the top with his third LP "Kaos". A big fall can be expected next week. Marilyn Manson's new album called "The Pale Emperor" debuts at #4, while Norway's folk-rock band Katzenjammer are new at #5 with "Rockland".

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 23.01

Despite its slow start in the autumn and the fact that it is the third official single from the "Motion" album of Calvin Harris, "Outside", his second collaboration with Ellie Goulding, manages to outrun this week's competition and to become the first number one single of the British star in Germany. Of course, Calvin Harris has already been at #1 but only as the man behind Rihanna's smash "We Found Love". Thus "Outside" rises five to replace "Walk" of Kwabs at the summit. The latter moves down one to #2 after only a week at the top. Up one, and returning to the top three is James Howard Newton's "The Hanging Tree" with the vocals of Jennifer Lawrence. The song has now a new trendy pop remix, so don't expect it to fade away soon.

The highest new entry belongs to local newcomer Ado Kojo and his debut single "Du liebst mich nicht" at #6. The R&B singer from Cologne got support from famous YouTube star Shirin David for this cover of the #1 hit of Sabrina Setlur (remember her?) from 1997.

Mark Ronson expectedly scores his second top ten single in Germany as "Uptown Funk" rises seven to #7. It is thus also the fifth top ten single of Bruno Mars.

Up three to #9 we have "Blank Space" of Taylor Swift, which turns into the third single of the US superstar to enter the top ten in Germany. Previous one "Shake That" peaked at #5.

Mark Forster is up one to #12 with "Flash Mich", while joining the list of 2015's first hits is Kygo's "Firestone", which enters the top 20 in its third week at #19, up from #33.

Also on the rise is "The Nights" by Avicii, this time at #22, up from #29. After debuting last week at #71, "Ayo", Chris Brown and Tyga's first release from their collaborative album, skyrockets to #23. Chris Brown was that high in the German chart way back in 2011 when "Don't Wake Me Up" reached #11. The US star is also part of the new entry at #30, in which he provides support to Kid Ink's next single "Hotel". Prior to that "Body Language" peaked at #54. Kid Ink's only time in the top 40 as a lead singer was in 2013 with "Show Me", also a collaboration with Chris Brown.

Inbetween, at #27 we have Omi's "Cheerleader" advancing 15 places, while Meghan Trainor's follow-up to "All About That Bass" enters the top 50 at #29, up from #53. Expect "Lips Are Movin'" to enter the top 20 soon.

At #39 Sam Smith's "I'm Not The Only One" rebounds eleven, while Ariana Grande and The Weeknd continue their rise with "Love Me Harder", up four to #41.

Also new inside the top 50 we have Deichkind's latest offering. "Denken Sie Gross" debuts at #47. Not so long "So’ne Musik" peaked at #27.

The Album Chart

In the LP chart the new album of German rapper Prinz Porno debuts straight at #1 as his previous effort did back in 2013. Also new inside the top ten we can find Olli Schulz' "Feelings Aus Der Asche" at #4 - the first top ten album of the Joko and Klaas' sidekick; Callejon's "Wir Sind Angst" at #5 - the third consecutive top ten album of the metalcore band; and B-Tight's "Retro" at #8 - the second top ten album of the German rapper.
