Austria's Top Economic News - Week 1-7 August

Monday

Austria's unemployment continued its downward path in July, with the number of unemployed standing at 262,904, a decrease of 10,839 compared to July 2010.
On Monday daily Österreich reported that Pakistani investor Alshair Fiyaz is the third interested party in insolvent A-Tec.

Tuesday

Tuesday was extremely slow on news, with only a spokeswoman of OeVAG telling Austria's APA news agency that there are still several open issues before the sale of OeVAG's eastern European unit VBI to Russian Sberbank. The spokeswoman did not give further details.

Wednesday

Car parts supplier Polytec closed the first six months of 2011 with sales of EUR 405.4m, up 11% year-on-year. Due to the good state of the automobile industry, the EBIT rose to EUR 29m from EUR3m.
Utility Vorarlberger Kraftwerke AG (VKW) said its net profit decreased by EUR 2.16m to EUR 17.07m in the first half of 2011. The results were affected by the lack of snow in the winter and the low water levels.
Real estate company Immofinanz said it had successfully closed its restructuring and that it ended fiscal 2010/11 with a net profit of EUR 313.5m, up 60.3%. The EBIT soared 134% to EUR 424.1m. The management plans a dividend per share of EUR 0.10. 

Thusrday

Refractory material producer RHI said on Thursday that its sales grew to EUR 850.9m in the first six months of the year from EUR 740.7m a year earlier. EBIT fell to EUR 69.2m from EUR 70.3m, while net profit remained stable at EUR 49m. The results came higher than the analysts' projections. The firm expects the same volume of sales for the second half of the year.
Teak Holz International announced a nine-month revenue of EUR 1.11m, up from EUR 437,000 a year earlier. The company's performance was affected by the further growth in its teak trees. Pretax profit stood at EUR 4m.
The negotiations between Austria and UAE for granting of more landing slots to the Emirates Airlines in Vienna ended without a solution on Thursday. The two sides agreed to continue the discussions in the autumn. Austrian Airlines is strongly opposing the giving of more flight permits for its peer.

Friday
Best Water Technology (BWT) announced on Friday that its first-half sales rose 5.7% to EUR 243.5m, while EBIT decreased 11.7% to EUR 17.9m. Net profit fell to EUR 10.8m from EUR 14.5m. The company projects sales of EUR 470m for full 2011.
According to a report of Romanian media, Erste Group has filed a takeover offer for the shares of the minority shareholders of its Romanian subsidiary BCR. The minority owners control around 30.1% in BCR.
Troubled IT services company S&T said its sales in the second quarter decreased 18% to EUR 65.2m, while the EBIT-loss widened to EUR 3.5m from EUR 2.5m. The firm said that the restructuring costs continue to be high and the market conditions to be tough.
