Bulgarian Boxoffice Update - Weekend 22-24 July

The BO statistics was never so interesting
After its less-than-magical debut last weekend, the latest Harry Potter flick at least finds some ground this time around and unlike the USA (where it collapsed 72%) falls in Bulgaria by 52%. Not the best result out there (it's actually the worst decrease in the top 10), it is still enough to keep the movie on top for a second weekend. Furthermore, the total proceeds of BGN 453,886 only show that the title is attracting a good number of viewers during the weekdays.

Drawing itself even closer to the 1m threshold, the third part of the Michael Bay robots show-off Transformers stands at #2 with a fall of 27%.

At #3 we can find the highest new entry for the weekend as Winnie The Pooh makes the excellent result of BGN 28,361 for just three days in release. Though far from the boxoffice achievements of Kung Fu Panda 2 and Cars 2, actually no one has expected this old-fashioned, non-3D and (worst) adults-frightening Disney toon to make any bucks here. Now, it's time to bring out the calculators and find out how many jars of honey our little fellow would be able to buy...

The rest of the top ten comes as follows: (pay attention to the good holds of Bad Teacher and Hangover 2, as well as the impressive growth registered by Pirates 4, which has finally crossed the 2m barier).

#4 - Cars 2 - change - -18%, BO so far in BGN - 530,252
#5 - Bad Teacher - -5%, 362,797
#6 - The Hangover Part II - -1%, 651,503
#7 - Mr. Popper's Penguins - -30%, 122,607
#8 - Larry Crowne - -41%, 70,073
#9 - Pirates 4 - +30%, 2,013,897
#10 - Kung Fu Panda 2 - -13%, 701,007

The top ten is left by Super 8, which despite its tough-for-sale-in-BG premise (no stars, an extra retro feeling, no Vin Diesel) is going to end its run in the country with a result slightly north of BGN 200,000.

Oh, and let's not forget that French movie Ces amours-la also enters the BO chart this week, albeit at #15. It has a mere BGN 5,691 as a result, but having in mind it's an arthouse movie and has been played in only one cinema, there should be no surprised.

Compared to my last week's projections Winnie The Pooh came close to my BGN 25,000 expectation.

Next weekend's projections:

Captain America - 180,000, including previews
Friends with Benefits - 75,000
(1 BGN = USD 0.740 = EUR 0.511)
