In Bulgarian Cinemas from 18 November 2011

Здрач Зазоряване: Част 1 / The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 - It's easy to start mocking at the Twilight saga and those who have found the previous three instalments appalling (and they have their strong reasons) will not be convinced by this almost final part either. The director may be fresh to the franchise, but the recipe is kept intact. Furthermore, the decision to break the last book into two separate movies, having in mind the lack of enough meat to sustain such a move, means that for two hours you'll only watch Bella and Edward throwing each other full of passion and longing looks.

So narratively speaking, Twilight 4.1 drags for so unbelievably long that even Harry Potter 7.1 can be felt as a compromised film in comparison. However, thus, the fans, and they, surprisingly or not, are millions, will find much to rejoice in Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 - the visuals are slick, the camera work steady, the costumes and the interiors/exteriors just taken out from a catalogue. What is more, the two hours allow the love story, the wedding, the honeymoon and ...(deleted for spoilers) to blossom.

Unfortunately, though Kristen Stewart continues to struggle in the central role (though I have to blame the book itself - rarely has such a melancholic and passive protagonist appeared on page/screen). In one of the scenes Bella asks Edward something such as "Don't you see how happy I am?", no Bella neither Edward nor the audience sees anything in your emotionless face. There is a saying in Bulgarian, which fits perfectly to describe Stewart's character - мърда, та дрънка. At the same time Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are somehow okay, though any of their efforts are blown away by the unintentionally laughable lines and clumsy CGI work, especially regarding the wolves. But I have to stop here. If you're a fan, you'll devour it, if not, try something else in the cinema listings. It's not that you're given much of a choice this weekend... (A+) **
