German Chart Comments - Issue Date 4.11

(Go go geronimo, or one of the most unexpected number ones this season)

It needed only a week for RiRi's worldwide smash to get kicked off from the top in Germany with the arrival of "Geronimo". The latter is the newest single of Aura Dione, who had a number one hit in 2009 with "I Will Love You Monday (365)", and though I considered her to be long forgotten, her "come-back" single really alights the chart. The song still has no video and I'm completely surprised by its success in the country...

So Rihanna has to retreat to #2 with "We Find Love", while the second new entry comes in at #3. After "Higher" was a smash in Germany at the start of the year, Taio Cruz returns with even more applause, as "Hangover" becomes his third single to reach #3 in Germany (I see a pattern here).

Despite its relative flop status in USA and UK, "Rain Over Me", the follow-up of Pitbull's monstrous hit "Give Me Everything", fares much better in Germany. The collaboration with Mark Anthony, with its dance beats, is perfect for the German charts, so no surprises that it enters at #7 this week.

Looking at the #14 new entry of Kool Savas' newest single "Aura", it is perhaps not an overstatement to say that German rap music has started to recover after falling in oblivion for the last several years. Next to "All 4 One" from 2005, this is Savas' second best selling single in the country.

Showing that videos can make chart history, LMFAO, one of the newcomers of 2011, bring their third single "Sexy And I Know It" at #16. Following the #1 success of "Party Rock Anthem" the duo made a wrong step with "Champagne Showers" (peak #41) and before we all say: one-hit wonder, LMFAO made a notorious video and are once again sailing on top of the worldwide charts.

Let's also pay tribute to the new peaks of Coldplay's "Paradise" at #13, Lana Del Rey's "Video Games" at #24 and Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner's "Sky and Sand" at #33.

The only other new entry straight in the top 50 can be found at #40. "Mr. Know It All" is the first single to be taken from Kelly Clarkson's latest album and by the looks of it, the song is for now a proof that her chart power has been steadily diminishing over the last years. Still, it's far from the Leona Lewis "Collide" disaster...

And the remaining new entries with videos and some info:

#94 Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - If I Had A Gun... - It's strange that the latest band of Noel Gallagher has a single in Germany different from what is released in the UK...
#97 Roger Cicero - In diesem Moment - Roger is somewhat stranger to the upper reaches of the Top 100 though his Eurovision entry "Frauen regier’n die Welt" peaked at #7 in 2007.

The Album Chart

Somehow expectedly Coldplay bring their new album to the top in Germany, as "Mylo xyloto" becomes the group's fourth album to reach the top spot. From there, it's a complete German top 5, with Udo Lindenberg, Helene Fischer, Peter Maffay and Rosenstolz all following. Also new to the top ten are Tom Waits' "Bad as me" at #6 and ASP's "Fremd" at #9.
