German Chart Comments - Issue Date 25.11

(Someone is having a really good feeling this week)

We have a busy pre-holiday week this time as 15 new entries make their way into the top 100. They are led by Flo Rida's amazingly popular single "Good Feeling". The song, which is actually based on Avicii's "Levels" (which this week falls to #7), is the pilot single of Flo Rida's latest album and easily becomes the US star first ever German number one. Didn't I tell you last time that Germans are into dance music currently?

What is more interesting is even that last week's number one, Rihanna's "We Found The Love", falls to #3, while Aura Dione's unstoppable "Geronimo" still holds on to the runner-up slot.

At the same time the competition is intensified by Lana Del Rey and her "Video Games", which deservingly goes up six positions and sits pretty just outside the top three.

The second highest new entry belongs to Rammstein, easily the most famous band to sing in German worldwide. With an already sold out tour, the guys will release their first ever Greatest Hits album, with "Mein Land", which debuts at #5, the only new track. Despite that all expectations are for the track to fall massively next week, it becomes the group's ninth top ten single.

Further down the countdown, Foster The People's "Pumped Up Kicks" has made it into the top 20 in its third week. The global hit soars from #32 to #20.

Two positions behind, Pietro Lombardi releases a new material after his number one "Call My Name" and his duet with Sarah Engels "Miss You" (peak #2). "Goin' To LA", which does not feature in Lombardi's debut album, however struggles to make it to the top 20 and with that rate we can expect everyone to forget about the latest winner of DSDS in a year time.

At #39 Finnish band Nightwish return to the chart in the 12th year after their "Sleeping Sun" peaked at #34. "Storytime" is the first single taken from the group's "Imaginaerum" LP and becomes their seventh top 50 single in Germany.

A place below the Finnish rockers, newcomer Ardian Bujupi brings his debut song "This Is My Time" to the top 100. Of course, the interest is triggered by Bujupi's participation in DSDS, where it ranked third behind Lombardi and Engels.

Next up is local band The Bosshoss, whose "Don't Gimme That" fails by a notch to beat their best peaking song "Hey Ya!". The new single enters at #42.

At #44 Lady Gaga's "Marry The Night" makes a "premature" new entry. Still, the song prospects to climb are not to be underestimated as it will gain airplay in the weeks to come.

The next new entry is the perfect example for the forthcoming holidays as schlager singer Christian Franke teams up with panpipes player Edward Simoni to come back to the singles chart with "Apfelbaum" at #45. Franke has had a top ten single in 1981 with "Ich wünsch' dir die Hölle auf Erden (wenn du heut' gehst)".

The song at #48 shows that someone has not forgotten the success of "We No Speak Americano" from last year and tries to copy the formula but in German. "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen", was made first popular in 1938 by the Andrew Sisters, though it dates way back to 1932. The new version belongs to Ilhama and DJ OGB and I personally expected to be a little more successful than this...

And the remaining new entries with videos and some info:

#54 Justin Bieber - Mistletoe - Poor Justin, even a Christmas song could not make him popular enough in Germany. The teen girls may scream their lungs out but he still has no top 10 single.

#58 Remady Feat. Manu-L - Give Me A Sign - The Swiss DJs are just unstoppable right now. Just look at the next new entry at #70!
Video

#70 DJ Bobo - Everybody's Gonna Dance - We have to give it to the man. Hate him or love him, the Swiss star has had 33 top 100 singles in his 19-year long career.
Video

#80 Professor Green Feat. Emeli Sande - Read All About It - I didn't expect this UK #1 to make it to Germany so quickly. It's not that someone has paid any attention...
Video

#82 Tom Lüneburger & Stefanie Kloß - We Are One - Yes, I personally don't know who that guy is, but Stefanie has had more fame as part of Silbermond. We need a new album soon!
Video

#92 Evanescence - My Heart Is Broken - Oh, somehow this time, Nightwish have done it better. The second single from Evanescence's last album makes it even worse than the #84 peak of "What You Want".

The Album Chart

Kool Savas' arrival in the album charts puts an end to the reign of Udo Lindenberg. Thus "Aura" becomes the rapper's first ever number one LP in the country. Snow Patrol has made a new career-best as their newest "Fallen Empires" comes fresh at #3. Also new to the top ten are the German Il Divo, or known as Adoro and their "Liebe meines Lebens" at #4.
