Who cares about the BO on a secluded island? |
I skipped the last week boxoffice comments but now they are back and to the max. The Twilight phenomenon, unfortunately or not, hasn't bypassed Bulgaria and has stormed the cinema charts. The latest instalment of the hollowest franchise ever (it's the truth, fans!) swept the boxoffice this weekend with BGN 187,933. In comparison, the third part made BGN 253,976 in its debut, which shows that all is not as rosy as it looks this time around. Still, I expect the fourth film to earn a respectable amount of money in its entire run in the country.
Last week's champion Immortals retreats with the excellent 35% this weekend and already boasts the majestically strong BGN 414,537. By the looks of it, we will have one of the most successful movie not backed by a major Hollywood studio in Bulgaria. (That, if the distributor, as it tends to do, doesn't decide to withdraw the film from the chart in the forthcoming weeks.)
Bulgarian behemoth Operacia Shmenti Kapeli continues its impressive run and, with BGN 904,001 so far, is steadily heading towards the 1 million threshold.
Also showing a great staying power, In Time falls with 32% to #4 and already has earned BGN 450,276 in the boxoffice.
After a slow start, Tower Heist stabilises with a decrease of 25% and for three weeks the comedy has made BGN 138,623 in total.
Thankfully The Adventures of Tintin has also managed to find its feet and with a fall of 30% at #6, the film's cumulative results stands at BGN 102,501 at present.
It's a high time for The Smurfs hysteria to finally fade away but, as it seems, it won't happen soon (the DVD is out soon!!!). The children movie even rises by 7% this weekend and already has BGN 1,101,063 on its account.
Following a spectacularly solid debut in the previous weekend, Midnight in Paris shows the biggest decline of 48% at #8. The latest Woody Allen flick has drawn BGN 59,330 so far.
Kecove, maybe the best Bulgarian movie of the year, falls 56%, with BGN 220,383 totally. The top ten is rounded up by The Three Musketeers, which has BGN 400,595 so far.
This weekend, the top ten is left by Spy Kids 4, which is slowly closing its run with about BGN 300,000. Too much for perhaps the worst movie of 2011.
Next weekend's projections:
Arthur Christmas - BGN 95,000 (it's awesome)
Son of No One - BGN 45,000 (it's pathetic)
The Skin I Live In - BGN 35,000 (don't hold your breath for any official figures)
(BGN 1 = USD 0.69/EUR 0.51)
