German Chart Comments - Issue Date 13.04

Looking at this week's German chart, it's clear that all who have quickly discarded  Michel Teló's power should take point now as his "Ai se eu te pego!" finds perhaps last inner strength and returns to the top for a massive non-consecutive 10th week. Thus, Olly Murs has to retreat to #2 after spending a single week on the summit with "Heart Skips A Beat". The top three is rounded by Mike Candys' 2012 "(If The World Would End)", which rises from #6 and may be a challenge for the crown soon.

Strangely or not, Caligola, the side project of two of Mando Diao's members, this week shakes the top five as pilot single "Forgive Forget" shoot itself to #4 from #26. Germans love radio-friendly songs, do they?

Germans also do love Nelly Furtado, whose presence in K'naan's "Is Anybody Out There" has certainly helped the single enters the chart at #11 this week. It's the second single of the African singer in the German chart after soccer anthem "Wavin' Flag" reached #1 in 2010.

Following misfire single "Au Revoir" (peak #73), dance project Cascada returns to the top 20 with "Summer of Love" at #13. Though I personally thought that Cascada had nothing new to offer, there is something fresh and kicking in the new single and a welcome return to form.

Following their debut at #30 last week, UK doo-wop boy band The Overtones moves up with its single "Gambling Man" and this week enters the top 20 at #16. It's strange that The Overtones are those who have a top 20 single in Germany when The Wanted and One Direction - the British boy bands that are shaping the US top ten as we speak, have failed to do so.

After being promoted as a second single from the album of the same name, Unheilig's "Lichter der Stadt" soars 60 places and stands at #31 this time. It's not that the band needs big single sales when the album is selling like a monster.

And the remaining new entries with videos:

48. Morten Harket - Scared Of Heights - A-Ha may be history now but that doesn't stop singer Morten Harket trying to conquer the charts on his own. This is his first solo single to enter the German top 100.

73. Fritz Kalkbrenner - Wes EP - Fritz Kalkbrenner is one of the brothers standing behind the enormously popular "Sky and Sand", which is still in the chart at #84.

74. Helene Fischer - Die Hölle morgen früh - It's rare to see schlager princess Helene Fischer in the singles chart, but who knows she may have a top 20 hit in some time of her future career.

78. And One - Shouts Of Joy - "So klingt Liebe" is the only single of German synthie pop band And One to have entered the top 50.

The Album Chart

It's not a news that Unheilig continue to rule the LP chart, which for a change this week sees no new entries inside the top 10. It's curious to note that all the first seven albums belong to German acts, which is something to be admired.
