Кешбол / Moneyball - Moneyball belongs to this part of movie making that is increasingly rare to be seen on the big screen in Bulgaria. It's a slowly developing, action-free story focused on larger-than-life characters. And if it wasn't for Brad Pitt in the lead, it would have never been released here. It's also to his credit, that Moneyball works beautifully as Mr. Jolie injects his character with humour, dignity, determination, and at the same time makes his drama and his ambitions believable. It's not coincidental that many critics proclaimed his performance as the best of his career. The same can also be said for his partner Jonah Hill, previously known mainly for his comic skills, whose incarnation as a sports nerd definitely deserves all the award fuzz. Though I guess that many will be appalled by the baseball premise, Moneyball is by no means a film about sports as you'd not see the typical sports drama plot developments. And all the better for it (Alexandra) ****

Контрабанда / Contraband - Lately there have been no movies about contraband out there in Hollywood (at least I cannot remember any), so this latest action flick starring Mark Wahlberg comes fresh. Or almost, as the plot development is standard and full of too few surprises, which will give fuel to many critics demanding originality. However, backed by solid performances and a coherent script, at the end Contraband succeeds in being a bearable two-hour experience. Furthermore, any movie that has Diego Luna as a fucked-up gangster and J.K. Simmons as a cocky captain deserves some attention. (Forum Film) ***
