Austrian Economic News - Week 2-8 Jan

Monday

Following several months of an upward trend, the number of unemployed in
Austria fell in December. Thus the country's unemployment rate
decreased 0.1 pct points to 8.2%. This corresponded to 360,583 people
without job.

Tuesday

Austria's antitrust watchdog has no objections against the increase of
the stake of IPIC in oil and gas group OMV. The move, however, has to be
approved by the government. The Abu Dhabi fund currently owns 24.9% in
OMV and wants to raise the shareholding to above 25%.

Wednesday

Electricity bills in eastern Austria will fall in 2012 as EnergieAllianz Austria, consisting of  Bewag, EVN and
Wien Energie, is reducing as of 1 January the prices by 1.6%. 

Thursday

Austrian Airlines plans to ground its entire Boeing 737 fleet as well as three older Airbus A321 in a move to save costs, Kronen Zeitung reported. The company did not comment the report. According to the daily, the company's employees fear now of further job cuts.
