Reaching the top was quite easy actually |
The arrival of Man On A Ledge led to changes at the top of the box office chart as the movie, proving that action focused titles are always welcomed in Bulgaria, attracts BGN 35,777 for the weekend, or BGN 57,488, including previews. However, Man On A Ledge has nothing to be proud of as its weekend result is one of the worst for a first-place finish lately.
Following two weeks at #1, Underworld: Awakening moves down to #1. The vampire flick has attracted BGN 371,553 so far and falls 44% this week.
The second new entry can be found at #3 belonging to critically penned One For The Money. The Katherine Heigl movie has lured BGN 30,008, or BGN 42,085 including previews. It's not much, but unfortunately tells a lot about the movie tastes on these shores.
At #4 The Muppets continues its so so performance, retreating 21% and with BGN 140,204 totally. Haywire is close behind with BGN 125,639, a decline of 38%.
Puss in Boots continues to impress with a fall of just 11% and BGN 1,237,517 as a whole.
The third new proposal enters the chart at #7. The surprisingly excellent Chronicle debuts with BGN 20,345. It's an unimpressive result but having in mind that found footage movies and those with no stars or any hype generally find no viewers here, it can be considered rather good.
Little Big Panda can be found at #8, with the smallest decline in the top ten of 4% and BGN 35,298 as a whole, while Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows goes down 34% and has BGN 938,048 in total. At #10 Devil's Double loses 26% and has the modest BGN 49,408 for two weeks in release.
The last new proposal for the weekend, the great The Help managed to fool no one in Bulgaria (irony intended) and unlike USA and many other countries flops at #11 with BGN 16,015. As I said before a film with many Oscar nominations and generally liked by critics and movie goers stands no chances for a huge success in Bulgaria. Its delayed premiere didn't help either.
This week the top ten is left by Contraband, which with BGN 161,130 so far, will end its run with relatively strong figures; Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, which turned to be one of the hits of the year with a total of BGN 891,931; as well as Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and its disappointing BGN 233,283. Yes, the good movies have no chance here. And don't blame the Internet only as many people who like quality movies just don't want to see them with the crowds in the multiplexes. And as the small cinemas were exterminated by the tough market conditions, the desire for fast profits and last but not least unreasonable policies of the distributors, it's not the illegal download who turned the people out of the cinema halls.
Compared to my last week projections, Man On A Ledge made a result higher than my BGN 42,000 prediction, including previews, One For The Money came close to my BGN 38,000 forecast, while Chronicle almost met my BGN 18,000 expectation. The Help was also relatively near my BGN 19,000 prediction.
Next weekend's forecast:
Safe House - 37,000
My Week With Marilyn - 19,000
Stars Wars 3D - 42,000
