As Kölsch and Glühwein were on my mind over the last week, I missed two of the premieres from Friday. One of them is the next typical Adam Sandler movie, and many say it's among his worst, while the other tries to look like an arthouse film, but has Gerald Butler and a machine gun. Oh, and let's not forget that a worthy candidate for the most redundant sequel of the year has also arrived...
Весели крачета 2 / Happy Feet 2 - By a definition penguins rank among the coolest creatures on earth. By a definition, though, a cute character doesn't make a movie. Happy Feet 2 comes five years after the first furore of the dance-loving feathery animals on the big screen. The first film was relatively okay but never needed a sequel. Especially one, in which the same ingredients are presented to us in a new package. So, yes, the universal truth that everyone is unique and should find their place in the world is once again thrust right under our noses. The problem is that, albeit from offering nothing new, the plot feels extremely patchy and derivative. New characters such as Bryan the Beach Master are underdeveloped and their actions inconsistent. At the same time, the attempt to make the two krills the new (Ice Age) squirrel fails big time. On the plus side, the animation is excellent, the landscapes dazzling but the feeling of cold remains even after the end credits. Only for the littlest ones. (Alexandra) **
