German Chart Comments - Issue Date 12.10

Logically the worldwide phenomenon that is the "Gangnam Style" has conquered Germany as well as this week Psy rises eight places to top the German singles chart. Thus, Asaf Avidan & The Mojos are down to #2 with "One Day / Reckoning Song", while former number one "Lila Wolken" of Marteria, Yasha & Miss Platnum sticks to #3.

The highest new entry can be found at #4. "Diamonds", the newest material of Rihanna, becomes the 18th top ten single of the global star in the country. This places RiRi at #3 in the list with female stars with the highest number of top ten singles in Germany, or just behind Madonna with 26 and Caterina Valente with 21. Last Rihanna was in the chart with "Where Have You Been" (peak #17).

Further down the top 10 OneRepublic advance a place and "Feel Again" peaks at #9, while the next new entry is Seeed's rushed follow-up to "Beautiful" (peak #22). "Augenbling" enters at #12 and is the fourth song of the German band to reach the top 20.

At #14 German female band Laing manages to enter the chart with their first ever single "Morgens immer müde". It's good that German music has had such a strong presence in the countdown lately.

A string of three internationally strong new entries can be located at places 21 to 23. They are led by Taylor Swift, whose "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" becomes only the third! single of the US superstar to crawl inside the top 100. And it beats by one position the #22 peak of "Love Story". Next up at #22 is the first ever hit of global sensation One Direction in Germany. Though the boys conquered the world with "What Makes You Beautiful" and despite the enormous promotional level in the country, the song reached only #40. Now the situation improves with the #22 entry of "Live While We're Young". However, the times when boy bands were huge in Germany seem to be gone, for now at least. And last Pitbull brings yet another hit at #23. "Don't Stop the Party" continues Pitbull's unharmed string of top 40 singles in the country as a lead artist.

"Don't You Worry Child" may be the farewell single of Swedish House Mafia but that doesn't stop it from becoming their biggest as the song peaks at #27, up from #38.

With a splendid jump from #74 to #29 Hanover-based rock band Ich Kann Fliegen makes its first ever top 30 single with "Mich kann nur Liebe retten". It's also the first song of the group in the chart.

Speaking of German music, hip hop band Die Orsons (together with the extremely hot right now Cro) also finds its first ever hit at #34. "Horst & Monika", albeit technically a re-entry, is another proof that German music is definitely on the rise. Therefore, it's also no surprising that after a slow start the latest from "veterans" Silbermond "Ja", this week soars to #49 from #61. Thus, the song improves on the #53 peak of previous single "FdsmH (Für dich schlägt mein Herz)" but still the group is more used to the top ten than to the lower reaches of the top 50.

And finally, let's not omit the #44-#72 rise of Rita Ora and "R.I.P.". Her DJ Fresh collaboration "Hot Right Now" reached #28.

The Album Chart

In the album chart Seeed's newest LP, the self-titled "Seeed", removes Xavas from the top slot, becoming their first ever #1 album.
