German Chart Comments - Issue Date 24.08

It's a second week on the top in Germany for Asaf Avidan's "One Day", while Lykke Li and Gusttavo Lima form a perfectly unchanged top three.

At the same time Taio Cruz's Olympic hymn "World in Your Hands"  marks a new peak at #4 (up from #7), showing that he's extremely loved in Germany. Also a welcome new peak is registered by Lana Del Rey and her great "Summer Sadness" at #7 (up from #9).

That brings us to the highest new entry of the week at #21. Following his performance at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games, George Michael returns in the chart with "White Light". George was last in the German top 100 with "December Song (I Dreamed of Christmas)" in 2008, achieving a peak of #37. He was in the top 10 for the last time in 2002 with his "Freeek!".

Spanish DJ Jose De Rico is to be blamed for the latest summer anthem, which is currently strongly gaining in momentum. The song in question, "Rayos de Sol", is soaring to #26 from #40.

Also on the rise, and showing that he should not be considered a one-hit wonder, is Olly Murs. "Oh My Goodness", the follow-up to Olly's #1 "My Heart Skips A Beat", jumps this week to #28 from #68.

The second highest new entry is also related to the Olympics and comes from Emeli Sande. "Read All About It (Part III)" is the second solo single of Emeli in the German countdown after "Next To Me" reached #21. The original "Read All About It" is actually a duet with Professor Green, which peaked at #80.

Former global superstar Shaggy, who last had a #1 hit in Germany with football anthem "Feel The Rush" in 2008, is also back in the top 50. His take on "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" can be located at #40. Cyndi Lauper's version reached #6 in 1984.

Michel Telo has come to this tricky moment whether it would be determined if he is a one-hit wonder or not. Thus, "Bara Bara", the follow-up of hit-of-the-year "Ai Se Eu Te Pego", debuts at #42 and it would be interesting to see how it performs in the weeks to come.

At the same time, hit machine Flo Rida, is already bringing a worthy successor to his mega-successful #2 single "Whistle" as "Let It Roll" shoots itself from #65 to #44.

The final new entry inside the top 50 belongs to Daniele Negroni at #45. The runner-up of the last DSDS casting show marks with "I like It Hot" a third single in the top 100 after "Don’t Think About Me" reached #4 and "Absolutely Right" peaked at #15.

And the other new entries this week:

53. Klangkarussell - Sonnentanz
67. Audiogroove - I Follow Rivers
77. Billy Talent - Surprise Surprise

The Album Chart

After giving up the top spot to Amigos, rapper Cro manages to return to the summit this week with his extremely successful "Raop". The highest new entry comes in at #3 from German band Jennifer Rostock and their "Live in Berlin". At the same time, Dead Can Dance's "Anastasis" debuts at #7.
