German Chart Comments - Issue Date 17.08

Following the somewhat surprising success of Lykke Li's "I Follow Rivers", Germans have another peculiar number one in the face of Asaf Avidan & The Mojos' "One Day / Reckoning Song". The single is the first ever hit of the Israeli folk rock band and its popularity may be traced back to the remix of local DJ Wankelmut. Hate it or love it, you can check the video below.

The highest new entry at #7 belongs to Max Herre, who has had former chart glory as part of Freundeskreis in the 90s, and new hot star Philipp Poisel. "Wolke 7" easily becomes the most successful solo single of Herre, outperforming the #33 peak of "1ste Liebe" from 2004, while Poisel has had a #4 single with "Eiserner Steg".

At the same time Taio Cruz' latest "World in Our Hands" enters the top ten at #8, up from #11, bringing his strain of top ten hits in Germany unharmed (bar "Telling the World" from Rio's soundtrack).

The second highest new entry comes from German comedy trio Y-Titty. "Der letzte Sommer" enters at #15 and beats considerably the #48 peak of the guys' previous and only top 100 single "Ständertime". Apart from Stefan Raab, who has been absent from the charts lately, it's rare to see comedic acts making a chart appearance in the country.

Following the #41 misfire with "Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)", Nelly Furtado returns to the countdown with a bigger success as "Spirit Indestructible" is new at #23. It's still a far cry though from Nelly's glory chart days in Germany.

After the top three peaks of previous singles "Got 2 Luv U" and "She Doesn't Mind", Sean Paul starts slow with his latest as "Touch The Sky" (a collaboration with DJ Ammo) debuts at #31.

German DJ Paul Kalkbrenner has finally managed to find a worthy successor of "Sky And Sand" as his newest single "Das Gezabel" comes in at #34. It may be close to "Sky And Sand"'s #29 peak but will never be able to beat the 115-week presence of the former in the Top 100.

So I'm not quite certain whether Eko Fresh and Bushido have always be allies but the fact is that the two of the most prominent German rappers return to the chart together with "Diese zwei" at #35. Bushido was last here with "Erwachsen sein" in 2011 (peak #29), while Eko Fresh's "Jenseits von Eden" reached #64. Actually the two have collaborated before on "Gheddo" (peak #15) and "Ring frei!" (peak #64).

DJ Antoine, whose career in the Top 100 consists of only two, albeit long-running hits, returns to the top 50 with his first "Megamix" at #42. No Doubt are also back with new material after "It’s My Life" reached #9 in 2003. Actually apart from "Don't Speak" (#2) and "Hey Baby" (#9), the group was never so successful in single terms in Germany, which somehow explains the low start of "Settle Down" at #44.

The Album Chart

Schlager group Die Amigos continue their string of #1 albums with "Bis ans Ende der Zeit" after previous LP "Mein Himmel auf Erden" also hit the first slot. Thus Cro has to fall to #2, while Linkin Park stick to the bronze position.
