German Chart Comments - Issue Date 17.10

Going on with her worldwide dominance, US newcomer Meghan Trainor spends a second week on top of the German chart with the all-conquering "All about that Bass". French project The Avener and "Fade out Lines", which spent a brief week on the top two weeks ago now recoups one position and is at #2, up from #3. Down one, to #3, is David Guetta, who is already ready with his next single, with former number one "Lovers On the Sun".

"Geronimo", one of the 2014 songs for me, of Australian band Sheppard is up a notch to #4, while definitely becoming her best performing single in Germany, Taylor Swift's "Shake It Up" advances two to #6.

Apart from his involvement in the David Guetta's current #3 single (his hands are all over the track), Avicii's last single in the German charts "Lay Me Down" reached #35. The dance superstar is now however back on form with completely new material at #7. "The Days" is the first single taken from the upcoming "Stories" LP and increases Avicii's top ten singles count to five. And yes, this is Robbie Williams on vocal duties...

Several months ago "Amoi seg’ ma uns wieder", the 2008 release of Andreas Gabalier was taken out of the archives thanks to a cover by Xavier Naidoo in a show with the participation of both Gabalier and Naidoo. Then, the single debuted in the top 20 to slowly exit the chart but to return this week with aplomb at #9 and to become the first top ten single of the Austrian volksmusic singer. The current renewal of the interest in "Amoi seg’ ma uns wieder" is thanks to a participant of the Supertalent show who decided to sing it during the contest.

Robin Schulz is just unstoppable as his latest single, this time credited to his own name, "Sun Goes Down" (with the vocals of Jasmine Thompson) is up nine to #14. It is the third single with his involvement in the top 20.

Following a six-year absence Lenny Kravitz is back into the top 20 as "The Chamber" rises from #31 to #17. Thus, the number of top 20 tracks of the rockstar rises to five.

Nickelback were last in the chart with "Lullaby" in 2012 and now are back with the first official single taken from their "No Fixed Address" album. The song debuts at #20 to become the fifth top 20 single of the band.

At #22, up from #27, we can find Hozier's "Take Me To Church", while in its second week on the countdown Tokio Hotel's "Love Who Loves You Back" soars to #38 from #94. This is the first single of Tokio Hotel in the chart in five years and the first one sung in English. Unfortunately, it is also the first one to miss the top five.

AC/DC is a group which is more to be seen in the LP chart than in the singles one, with their last single there being "Hard As A Rock" from 1996. Now, the guys are back in the top 40 with a new material as "Play Ball" debuts at #39.

And finally, following the success of "Maps" (peak #6), Maroon 5's follow-up "Animals" enters this week the top 50 as it rises 23 positions to #41.

The Album Chart

Sunrise Avenue score their first ever #1 album this week as their best of compilation "Fairytales" debuts directly at #1. The boys' previous album, "Unholy Ground", peaked at #3. Tokio Hotel thus have to deal with their first, out of four, albums to miss the top spot in Germany as "Kings Of Suburbia" enters at #2. Bryan Adams' "Tracks of my Years" can be found this week at #5, while local rapper Bizzy Montana makes a career best with "Mukke aus der Unterschicht 4" coming in at #6. At #10, "Insel", the fourth album of local band Juli, makes a rather disappointing new entry.
