German Chart Comments - Issue Date 30.09

There is no one able to stop Marlon Roudette from being number one and his "New Age" clocks up a fifth week on top of the German charts, while Maroon 5's UK destiny to be the constant number two seems to be repeating in Germany too.

This leaves us to the highest and maybe the most surprising new entry at #3. It belongs to local dance project R.I.O., who after several top 100 singles, the biggest of which "Shine On" (peak at #25), brings its first top ten single ever. The success of "Turn This Club Around" can be sought in the huge popularity of dance singles this summer - just look how "Welcome To St. Tropez", "One Night In Ibiza" and all David Guetta stuff has performed so far.

Speaking of David Guetta, his "Titanium" marks a new peak at #6, though by the looks of it, it won't be the next proper single of the French DJ.

New peaks also by Sean Paul's "Got 2 Luv U" at #7, Udo Lindenberg's "Ein Herz kann man nicht reparieren" at #11 and Natalia Kills' "Free" at #16.

Two new entries join the top 20 club this week. First, "Paradise", Coldplay's follow-up to "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall" (peak #24), becomes deservingly their fourth top 20 single in the country by arriving at #17. A position behind the UK band, UK singer James Morrison makes a good return to the German Top 100 with his newest single "I Won't Let You Go". The song comes three years after the number-one smash duet with Nelly Furtado "Broken Strings".

As the saying goes, it's better late than ever as 85-year old music veteran Tony Bennett has his first ever single in Germany. Never being a real commercial artist, it's not so strange that the singer has never appeared in the countdown prior to his collaboration with late Amy Winehouse. Of course, it's all thanks to Amy, with "Body And Soul" (new at #31) turning into her seventh song to enter the German chart.

And the remaining new entries with videos and some info:

73 Johannes Strate - Es Tut Mir Weh Dich So Zu Sehen  - This entry outside the top 50 is not a flying start for the solo career of the Revolverheld singer.
Video
86 Robert Abigail & DJ Rebel feat. The Gibson Brothers - Cuba - It's a new version of the Gibson Brothers single of the same name, which peaked at #22 in 1979.
Video
91 DJ Antoine feat. Tom Dice - Sunlight - As "Ma Cherie" entered the charts exactly two weeks ago, do we have a David Guetta pattern here? They at least have a video...
Video
94 Samy Deluxe feat. Max Herre - Zurück Zu Wir - A second single from Samy's "Poesie Album", with the previous one peaking at #62.

The Album Chart

Something extremely extraordinary has happened to the LP chart in Germany this week as as many as 29 new entries have flooded it. Blame the weak sales or something else, but I don't think that the chart has ever seen such invasion before. Anyway, the parade is led by Udo Lindenberg's "MTV Unplugged" at #1, while SuperHeavy's "SuperHeavy" is at #2, Fler's "Im Bus ganz hinten" at #3, Luxuslärm's "Carousel" at #6, VNV Nation's "Automatic" at #8 and Opeth's "Heritage" at #9.
