German Chart Comments - Issue Date 22.04.2016

So finally, after a ten-week reign, Alan Walker's "Faded" slips to #2 to give way to Sia's "Cheap Thrills" to crown Germany's top 100. The track is the first-ever song with a participation of the Australian singer to reach the German summit. Her most successful hit before was of course David Guetta's "She Wolf", to which Sia provided vocals and which peaked at #3 in 2012. The top three is once again completed by Stereoact's "Die immer lacht" at #3.

Three emerging hits bring the so needed freshness to this week's top ten led by Drake's "One Dance", which soars from #24 to #6 after its first full week of availability on download and streaming portals. The song thus easily eclipses the #18 peak of "Hotline Bling", Drake's most successful single as a lead artist in Germany so far. What is more, he is now just a position behind the peak position achieved by "Work" of Rihanna, which currently is the best performing track with a credit from the Canadian star.

Up five to #9 we have The Chainsmokers and their "Don't Let Me Down". The track is the first ever of the US DJ duo to reach Germany's top ten, with previous singles "#Selfie" peaking at #38 and "Roses" being no higher than #24.

Also new inside the top ten is "Bonbon", the debut single of Albanian Era Istrefi. It's up five to #10. DNCE's "Cake by the Ocean" moves this week two to #16, while at #18 we can witness the return to the chart of Milow. The Belgian artist is back with "Howling At The Moon", the pilot single from its latest album called "Modern Heart". The song debuted last week at #55 and being influenced by the currently extremely trendy dance hits (think Lost Frequencies or Robin Schulz), it is no surprise to see it soaring to the top 20 in such a manner. It is the sixth single of Milow to enter the German top 20.

"Speeding Cars" of Walking On Cars climbs five to #23, while at #29 we can find the hottest new star from the States. Rapper Desiigner has already reached #2 across the pond with "Panda" and it is now time for the rest of the world to follow suit. The song rises 21 positions to #29.

The highest new entry belongs to superstar Pink and "Just Like Fire", the song taken from the soundtrack of forthcoming blockbuster "Alice Through the Looking Glass", at #32. It has been three years since Pink was that high in the German charts when "Just Give Me A Reason" hit #1.

And finally, Max Giesinger's "80 Millionen" moves this week two to score a new peak at #37.

The Other New Entries:

47. Vanessa Mai - Ich Sterb Fuer Dich
66. Kungs & Cookin' On 3 Burners - This Girl
94. Alessia Cara - Wild Things
95. Tinie Tempah - Girls Like (Feat. Zara Larsson)

99. Alle Farben - Please Tell Rosie (Feat. Younotus)
100. Sigala - Give Me Your Love (Feat. John Newman & Nile Rodgers)

The Album Chart

The power of schlager music may be not so obvious in the singles chart, but looking at the album top ten it is more than clear what the favourite genre of Germans is. As Andrea Berg expectedly sticks to #1 with "Seelenbeben", the highest new entry belongs to veteran Matthias Reim and "Phoenix" at #2, his fourth album to reach the top two. Vanessa Mai, not to be confused with Vanessa Mae, who has previously acted under the name of Wolkenfrei, brings "Für Dich" at #4, while Michelle's latest "Ich würd' es wieder tun" somewhat underperforms at #6. The schlager scene is also represented by Beatrice Egli, whose newest album slips to #8. Inbetween at #3 the local hiphop scene is responsible for the new entry of RAF Camora and "Ghost". Santana's latest release is new at #5 - the only non-German act in the top ten.
