German Chart Comments - Issue Date 7.03

Mr Probz may have managed to replace Pharrell Williams at the top of the German singles chart with "Waves" last week but this time quickly vacates the throne and lead the way to Pharrell's "Happy" to return to #1 for a seventh non-consecutive time. Thus the Dutch artist is down one to #2, followed by the highest new entry at #3.

Nico & Vinz, a Norwegian duo formerly known as Envy, already had a huge success in Scandinavia with "Am I Wrong" in 2013. Now it's time for the song to conquer the rest of Europe, with a debut at #3 in Germany quite a good start.

The ascent of Clean Bandit and "Rather Be" continues this week as the song moves six to #6, while at #8 Avicii's "Addicted To You", up also six, becomes the fourth top ten hit of the Swedish star in Germany.

Inside the top 20, Cris Cab, with the help of one Pharrell Williams, rises fifteen to #13, while Lorde has a second top 20 hit to her name as "Team" inches up one to #20.

Apart from the #5 peak of "Forever Love" in the 1990s, Gary Barlow was never a huge solo star in Germany ("Shame", which reached #11 in 2010, was after all a collaboration with the far more popular Robbie Williams), but that does not stop his comeback single, the brilliant "Let Me Go", to enter comfortably at #25.
Video

At #26, Sido's "Liebe" moves up one, as well as "Wizard" of Martin Garrix and Hardway, which enters the top 30 at #30 in its second week on the chart.

"Feel It", actually credited to Three 6 Mafia vs. Tiesto with Sean Kingston & Flo Rida,  has been so far the biggest and only top 40 hit of Tiesto in Germany as it reached #21 in 2010. This week the most famous DJ worldwide returns to the countdown with a brand new material as "Red Lights" enters at #29.

Following the flop of his last single ("Jambalaya", peak #100), German rapper Casper is back on better form as the fourth single from his current album, "Alles Endet (Aber Nie Die Musik)", enters fresh at #36.

Boosted by the recent Cologne carnival, "Koelsche Jung" of local "cult" band Brings soars to #41 from #98, while "Trumpets" of Jason Derulo moves up four to #45. Also new inside the top 50 is the latest offering of schlager singer Juergen Drews and "Und wir waren wie Vampire" at #48.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 21.02

Though Dutch Mr Probz makes a phenomenal jump with "Waves" (and especially the Robin Schulz remix, it's after all the new "One Day/Stolen Dance") from #27 to #2, Pharrell Williams manages to extend his run on top of the German singles chart to six consecutive weeks with "Happy". Helene Fischer's "Atemlos durch die Nacht" spends a second week stuck to #3.

At #9, up from #12, "Dark Horse" of Katy Perry feat. Juicy J becomes the eight top ten single of the US superstar in Germany. Further down the chart, "Money on My Mind" of Sam Smith advances a notch in its second week to #13, while Avicii's "Addicted To You" is definitely ready for the top ten as it rises 14 places to #14 and is for now the fourth top 20 single of the Swedish DJ.

The dance anthems are definitely fashionable this week as in its second appearance on the list, Clean Bandit's "Rather Be" moves up from #35 to #22, followed by the highest new entry courtesy of one David Guetta with the help of Skylar Grey. The French super DJ was last in the countdown with "Play Hard", while his latest "She Shot Me Down" now enters at #24. The original song of Cher, released in 1966, reached #17.

Newcomer Cris Cab, with the support of Pharrell, continues his rise and is this week at #25, up from #43, with "Liar Liar", while Sido's "Liebe" moves up four to #27.

After following to #88 in its second week last time around, "Heart To Heart", the follow-up to James Blunt's number one "Bonfire Heart" (it's a heart theme obviously), finds some inner strength and shoots itself to #40. Thus all Blunt's releases in Germany have entered the top 50.

Video

At #46 local rapper/dance artist Carlprit has his first ever top 50 hit after two lesser singles with "Remember To Forget". The song is up from #65.
Video

Last week U2's "Ordinary Love" reached #39, this time falling to #55, but the boys are back in the top 50 with another offering as "Invisible" soars from #97 to #48.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 14.02

Pharrell Williams' "Happy" extends its run on top of the German singles chart to five weeks, while Ed Sheeran's "I See Fire" finally succeeds to break his #3 spell and to move a position to #2. Also up one, and celebrating her first ever top three single, is Helene Fischer and her unstoppable "Atemlos Durch Die Nacht".

At #7, up from #11, German band Revolverheld score their fourth top ten single with the ballad "Ich Lass Fuer Dich Das Licht An". The song manages to improve on the #10 peak of the guys' previous offering - "Das kann uns keiner nehmen".

Video - Revolverheld

The release of a provocative video sees "Can't Remember To Forget You", the somewhat boring team-up of Shakira and Rihanna, soaring ten to enter the top ten at #9. It is thus Shakira's tenth top ten single in Germany as a lead artist.

Video

Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" is also heading towards the top ten slots as it climbs eight and is at #12.

Audio

The highest new entry comes surprisingly by Sam Smith and his first solo single called "Money On My Mind". The song, which comes after the huge success of Naughty Boy's "La La La" (peak #2), to which Sam provided vocals, is new at #14.

Video

After a steady climb over the last six weeks, Zedd's "Stay The Night" makes it this week into the top 20 by moving up nine to #15.

Video - Zedd

Also new, straight in the top 20, is Tres Jolie and "Bow! (You Gotta Kick It)" at #20. The newcomer is actually a star of the extremely popular "Berlin - Tag und Nacht" TV series.

Video

At #27, up from #41, "Waves" of Mr Probz continues its quest to become one of the early spring hits in Germany, while Avicii is already gaining in momentum with another track as "Addicted To You" skyrockets to #28 from #95.

The British invasion continues at #38, where Rudimental have their first top 40 hit with "Free", up from #44. At the same time U2's "Ordinary Love" becomes the first single of the band to enter the top 40 in four years. It moves up thirteen to #39.

Also new inside the top is "Hydra" of Within Temptation at #4, rock band Krawallbrueder and "Schmerzfrei" at #5, rapper PA Sports and "H.A.Z.E" at #7, and German singer Oonagh and "Oonagh" at #8.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 7.02

It's a four week "Happy" for Pharrell Williams on top of the German singles chart, with Lily Allen's "Hard Out Here" sticking to #2 for a second time. At #3 Ed Sheeran continues to hold the bronze medals with "I See Fire".

At #4, up from #5, Helene Fischer's "Atemlos Durch Die Nacht" is once again cementing its status as the biggest hit single of the schlager queen. And now with the Cologne carnival coming, are we going to have the first #1 single of Helene in Germany?

Audio

Local rapper Marteria is currently having a real blast as his "Kids (2 Finger An Den Kopf)" advances two to #6, while he has brought a new single in the chart at #8. Thus, "OMG" becomes the third top ten song of Marteria, while "album" track "Bengalische Tiger" re-enters this week at #49.

Bastille's "Of The Night" goes on with its climb for yet another week and is already at #10, up from #12, closing the gap to the #6 peak of the band's biggest hit "Pompeii".

Though "Unconditionally", the previous single of Katy Perry, stalled at #22, her latest "Dark Horse" is going to have better future as it moves 13 to #20. The current US number one is Katy's 11 top 20 single in the country.
Audio

Also on its way to become a major hit is "Stay The Night" of Zedd feat. Hayley Williams, which soars from #45 to #24.

Video - Zedd

Sido's "Liebe" continue to go up the list, and is this time at #32, an increase from #29. It is followed by London Grammar's "Strong", up eleven to #33, while Mr. Probz and "Waves" enters the top 50 in its second week at #41, a rise from #69. It is the first major hit of the Dutch artist.

After "Royals" reached "only" #8, Lorde is ready with her second hit single as "Team" is gaining in momentum and shoots itself from #65 to #42 in its third week in the top 100.
Video

Rudimental may have been quite successful in their native UK but they have never had a hit in Germany so far. This week, however, sees "Free", with the help of Emeli Sande, breaking inside the top 50 by advancing 14 to #44. "Feel the Love", the only other song of Rudimental which charted in Germany, peaked at #59.

Video

Also new to the top 50 is the third single taken from Fettes Brot's latest LP. "Für immer immer" moves up from #80 to #48, while previous singles "Kuss Kuss Kuss" reached #35 and "Echo" peaked at #12.

And the other new entries this week:

73. Cris Cab ft. Pharrell Williams - Liar Liar

The Album Chart

Expectedly Peter Maffay's "Wedd das so ist" remains for a second week as #1 in the Album chart, despite the arrival of the new album of medieval folk rock band Schandmaul, called "Unendlich" at #2. The new album of legendary German DJ ATB titled "Contact" curiously comes in at #5, his best charting album so far, while "Kaleidoscope" of supergroup Transatlantic enters at #6. Also new inside the top ten is "Ghost Empire" of local metalcore band Caliban at #7 - a career best.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 31.01

Pharrell Williams is "Happy" to be number one in Germany for a third week, while Lily Allen storms the chart as she has never done before. Despite being a relative flop in her native UK, the use in Germany's "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here" show has propelled the sales of "Hard Out Here" to bring it new at #2. Oh, and let's not forget that German media is not bothered to play the song despite the somewhat offensive lyrics. Lily Allen's biggest hits so far have been "The Fear" and "Not Fair", which both peaked at #12. Allen was last in the countdown with "22" in 2009.
Video - Pharrell
Video - Lily Allen

The top three is rounded up by "I See Fire" and Ed Sheeran, with the song from the Hobbit 2 soundtrack spending another week at #3.
Video - Ed Sheeran

Inside the top 20, the usual suspects from the last few weeks continue climbing up the chart. Thus, Revolverheld's "Ich Lass Fuer Dich Das Licht An" moves up three to #11; Bastille's "Of The Night" rises one to #12 and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "White Walls" beats the peak of their previous single "Same Love" by appearing at #17, an increase from #28.

Also up one, but still failing to set the charts on fire, is the Shakira and Rihanna's collaboration "Can't Remember To Forget You", which is this week at #19.
Video

It may be in the chart for quite some time but that does not stop One Direction's "Story Of My Life" from registering a new peak position at #21, up from #27, and from steadily turning into the boys' biggest hit in Germany.

Video - One Direction

Somewhat surprisingly, the 2014 edition of Dr. Alban's 90s hit "It's My Life" moves up three in its second week and is now at #29.

Audio

Further down the top 50, Sido's "Liebe" advances seven to #39, while Zedd's "Stay The Night" climbs eleven to #45. Though already quite famous elsewhere, this is the first single of the German DJ to enter the top 50 as previous one "Clarity" flopped at #94.

German Chart Comments - Issue Date 24.01

A completely unchanged top 5 in Germany this week with Pharrell Williams spending a second week at #1 with "Happy" followed by "Timber" of Pitbull and Kesha at #2 and "I See Fire" of Ed Sheeran at #3.

Video - Pharrell
Video - Pitbull

Further down the countdown, Bastille's "Of The Night" rises thirteen positions to #13 and improves on the #18 peak of the band's previous single "Things We Lost In The Fire". Their first single in Germany, "Pompeii", reached #6.
Video

At #14 "Ich lass für dich das Licht an", the beautiful ballad of German band Revolverheld, quite deservingly becomes their eight top 20 single by moving up from #38. It is the second offering of the guys' "Immer in Bewegung" LP, with the first one "Das kann uns keiner nehmen" reaching #10 last year.

Video

The highest new entry belongs to local YouTube star ApeCrime and his second single called "Swing dein Ding". The song enters at #17, beating the #35 peak of "Ich trau mich nicht" from the autumn of 2013.

Video

Superstar Shakira was last in the German chart as a leading artist with "Rabiosa" in 2011 but she is now back with her much hyped Rihanna duet "Can't Remember To Forget You". The song appears new at #20 and boosts the number of Shakira's top 20 singles in the country to 13.

Audio

At #28 Macklemore & Ryan Lewis score their fourth top 30 single as "White Walls" rises from #41 and will perhaps soon improve on the #25 peak of "Same Love" from several months ago.

Video - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

It's been seventeen years since "Mr. DJ" reached #70 and 22 years since "It's My Life", respectively the last charting and the most successful single of Swedish eurodance star Dr. Alban were in the German top 100. Now, as if from nowhere, a new version of "It's My Life" appears at #32 to remind us that the time of easy 90s covers is not over.
Audio

And last at #49, up from #70, Steve Aoki, together with Chris Lake & Tujamo, brings his second top 50 single after "A Light That Never Comes", a team-up with Linkin Park, reached #8. The new song is called "Boneless".

The Album Chart

And finally we have some fresh wind blowing in the Album chart with the latest album of Bruce Springsteen called "High Hopes" removing Helene Fischer from the top spot. It thus becomes the eight LP of The Boss to crown the German charts. Also new at #4 is "Bunte Republik Deutschpunk" of Berlin-duo SDP (by far their most successful release), schlager veterans Amigos are new at #5 with "Unvergessene Schlager", while "Slum Dog Millionaer", the debut of rapper Kurdo, is new at #6. At #8 German metalcore band Eskimo Callboy also make a debut with "We Are The Mess".
